Dominica’s Creative Industry Powers EC$69.6M Economic Boost as Carnival 2026 Launches with Bold Vision

Minister Denise Charles-Pemberton Highlights Culture as a Pillar of National Growth

Dominica's creative sector continues to prove itself as one of the country's most powerful engines of economic growth. At the official launch of Carnival 2026, Minister of Tourism, Hon. Denise Charles-Pemberton, delivered a compelling address affirming that culture and creativity are not just celebration—they are major contributors to Dominica's economic success.

According to the Minister, Carnival and the World Creole Music Festival have already injected an estimated EC$69.6 million into the economy in 2025 alone, supporting thousands of jobs, driving income across communities, and strengthening businesses from the smallest vendors to larger enterprises.

"When our culture moves, Dominica moves. When our creatives thrive, our people thrive,"
said Minister Charles-Pemberton, underscoring the central role that musicians, artists, designers, event planners, bands, and cultural practitioners play in national development.

Creative Economy: A National Growth Driver

The Minister's speech marked one of the strongest public affirmations yet of the creative industries as a formal economic pillar.

The estimated EC$69.6 million impact demonstrates that events such as Carnival and the World Creole Music Festival are not seasonal entertainment—they are national economic infrastructure, stimulating:

  • Employment across hospitality, transportation, marketing, security, and entertainment

  • Business revenues for food vendors, costume builders, craft makers, bar owners, DJs, bands, designers, and media professionals

  • Tourist spending in hotels, restaurants, tours, transport, and retail

  • Cultural exports that strengthen Dominica's brand across the region and world

The ripple effect touches every level of society, proving the creative industry's crucial contribution to national prosperity.

This season, Dominica pays tribute to legendary carnival builder Danley "Dan Lee" Guy, whose more than 50-year contribution to costume design, organization, and cultural leadership helped shape the very festival celebrated today.

His recognition reinforces the value of creative labor—often underappreciated but essential to Dominica's cultural and economic growth.
